Coleman®, an outdoor gear icon for more than 120 years, has introduced Snap ’N Go, the world’s first collapsible hard cooler. The product combines the durability and cold retention of a traditional hard cooler with a space-saving design that collapses to one-third of its size for easier storage and transport.

Snap ’N Go is a collapsible hard-shell cooler that expands to full size in seconds and delivers up to 64 hours of cold retention, helping solve one of the most common challenges in the category: bulky storage.

A Cooler Designed for Modern Outdoor Living

The innovation is grounded in a clear shift in consumer behavior. Outdoor recreation today is increasingly centered on casual, day-use occasions such as tailgates, sideline sports, backyard gatherings, and beach outings. At the same time, many younger consumers are living in smaller, more urban spaces where storage is limited.

Traditional hard coolers often take up valuable space at home and in transit. This creates friction for consumers who want high performance without sacrificing convenience. Coleman identified this tension as a key barrier and an opportunity to rethink the category for a new generation.

To better understand this audience, the team combined traditional research with AI-powered consumer personas. This approach helped uncover how younger outdoor consumers balance performance needs with space constraints, and it informed the development of a more adaptable cooler solution.

How Coleman Engineered a Collapsible Hard Cooler

Developing a collapsible hard cooler required extensive iteration across design, engineering, and manufacturing. Early concepts explored modular constructions, but these introduced challenges with insulation, leakage, and ease of use.

Teams continued to test and refine multiple approaches, focusing on usability, durability, and performance. The result is a fully integrated, patented design that maintains the structure of a hard cooler while enabling it to collapse quickly and efficiently.

Snap ’N Go expands to full size in seconds and collapses to approximately one-third of its volume. It delivers up to 64 hours of cold retention in the 55-quart size and includes dual carry modes for easier movement in different environments. Consumers can carry it vertically when collapsed or horizontally when in use, which helps with navigating tight spaces and loading into vehicles.

The design also improves how coolers move through the supply chain. Traditional hard coolers require significant space during shipping and storage. Snap ’N Go reduces that inefficiency by shipping at a fraction of the volume, which improves freight utilization, supports e-commerce growth, and increases warehouse efficiency.

Strong Media Coverage and Market Momentum

Since its launch, Snap ’N Go has received widespread media attention across top-tier outlets. Fast Company highlighted the product as a meaningful design innovation in the cooler category. Additional coverage includes CNET, The Verge, Gear Patrol, Men’s Journal, and Real Simple, with further reach through national syndication on MSN and Yahoo.

The launch has generated more than 600 million media impressions to date, reflecting strong interest from both consumers and industry observers.

Snap ’N Go is currently available through select retail partners, including REI, Coleman.com, Amazon, and additional retailers nationwide.
